Immersive technologies are transforming how we see and engage with the world around us. Immersive Futures Lab is on a mission to showcase R&D work from innovators working at the boundaries of the possible. 

The Lab brings cutting-edge projects to major events in the UK and US. It gives innovators a platform to put exciting prototypes into the hands of new audiences and tell the stories behind their work. 

Beyond 2023

The Immersive Futures Lab @ BEYOND features a range of creative projects that demonstrate innovative ideas, new types of content and novel uses of technologies drawn from the cutting-edge R&D work developed by XR Stories, The Royal College of Art, Squid Soup and Adapt AI as well as three special guest projects from Ithra, Saudi Arabia

SXSW 2023

The Immersive Futures Lab appeared at the SXSW Festival in Austin TX, a unique opportunity for immersive innovators to reach a global audience. The Lab featured projects from leading UK researchers with work drawn from Augmented and Virtual Reality, and audio technologies.

Beyond 2022

Immersive Futures Lab appeared in Cardiff at the 2022 edition of BEYOND, the R&D conference for the creative industries. The Lab featured projects with links to the core conference theme of the creative industries response to the climate crisis.

SXSW 2022

In 2022, the Immersive Futures Lab delivered a programme of events showcasing the best of UK innovation to an international audience at the SXSW festival in Austin, TX.

Beyond 2021

The Immersive Futures Lab appeared at BEYOND, The R&D conference for the creative industries, in Belfast in 2021,. Innovators brought a big range of R&D projects demonstrating some incredible explorations of the future possibilities for immersive technologies.

Beyond 2020

The Immersive Futures Lab featured for a second year in a row at the BEYOND conference in 2020. This edition of the conference was online only, and focused on the impact of the pandemic on the creative industries. The Lab featured a line-up of exciting R&D projects pushing creative technologies in new directions with audiences getting to dig deeper into the work through virtual ‘meet the maker’ sessions.

Creative China 2020

As part of the BEYOND conference 2020, with the support of the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Creative China track was introduced. This featured a fantastic Immersive Futures Lab with projects that featured UK-China collaborations in immersive technologies R&D.
